Just to be given a bit of time to set my intentions for the trip ignited something special in me. A fire, a curiosity, a desire to keep creating and discovering. That’s what I was looking for when I came here and I found it.

It was wonderful. I loved meeting everyone, finding myself and feeling happy. I don’t have the words to explain it all. I feel so lucky to be able to share with everyone and have the opportunity to discover so much magic in the group and in nature.
— Mar, Cancun
I came to this retreat worried that I wouldn’t fit in or that I’d discover that in reality I was a “fake artist”. Writing that now after the retreat seems like such a ridiculously silly fear. This experience exceeded my wildest dreams. Holistika was the perfect start: so peaceful and serene. The women: so kind and supportive yet honest. Mix in the classes that offered clear, applicable, real world advice… add a dash of symbolism and mysticism from our altar ceremony and sound healing. It truly WAS a Magic Jungle Experience. I’m so thankful to the whole staff who shared their knowledge with us. Special shout out to Nadia, something about my chats with you just made things click for me. You are truly talented in helping others discover themselves which was a big goal for me during this trip. Thank you for everything!
— Danny, San Diego
It’s amazing how much a little positivity and encouragement can do. It’s great and important to meet other creatives.
— Ekaterina, Russia/Brazil
This experience was wonderful for me. I think we all have a small voice
inside our hearts that we don’t listen to all the time because of the noise in our day-to- day. This experience made that voice stronger and gave it
courage. I also feel the creative brainstorming in the Hot Seats really helps people with something concrete to do, a short-term goal to break open up the inertia and feelings of self-doubt and laziness. It was so great to hear each person’s stories and feel the power of being in a community of women of various ages. I’m so glad we created this magical bond here in the jungle where everything seems possible now.

This was the confirmation I needs to take the plunge and be my own boss. It’s not the norm and everyone in NYC is work, work, work. I knew there had to be more to life! You guys showed me there can be a balance and you have to stay true to yourself and not lose yourself in your job. I’m gonna go home and create from a place of passion instead of just worrying if it will sell. You’ve shown me how to start which is what I needed. You guys are all so awesome and relatable and I can tell you really care. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

This experience was magical with this space and everyone involved. We were destined to all come together to share knowledge, love, energy and advice in this special place which is like an energy vortex. Thank you for the openness of everyone here and for the opportunity to be authentic and heard. This was truly an experience in the Magic Jungle.
— Marian, Miami
It has been a life-changing experience! En muchos sentidos: personalmente, emocionalmente, profesionalmente.

The Magic Jungle has been an enjoyable way to explore myself and others in a fantastic setting. It’s been an experience that will continue to resonate for a long time. It’s been an honor to witness the catharsis in one another.
Every person involved has been a critical component to the overall
experience. A big Hi5 to Ana, Maggie, Nadia, Aisha and the Holistika staff-
Michel’s laugh and the Mayan trombone in particular.
— Kathy, USA/Sweden
This experience has changed my life. Prior to this retreat I was in a creative block, and maybe a little complacent with nurturing my art despite wanting ever so badly to make it more of a focus in my life. I needed a different kind of nudge that my friends and family couldn’t give me. I needed a space free from the routine and stresses of my normal day-to- day to explore my identity as an artist and as a human, to discover new ideas that I may have never thought up on my own, to be introduced to topics I am not an expert in and to be supported by people who are going through the same rut as me. It was very inspiring to be around this specific group of women and just to be given a bit of time to set my intentions for the trip ignited something special in me. A fire, a curiosity, a desire to keep creating and discovering. That’s what I was looking for when I came here and I found it. Thanks for giving me this beautiful, happy, exciting chapter in my life! I’m forever
grateful!

What an unexpected, eye opening, truly magical experience! Ana and her staff created a warm, safe, and supportive environment that allowed to really think of myself and my life as an artist. The generosity of spirit
provided by the people and location of the Magic Jungle was a gift that I will carry throughout my future. I got really clear on my personal style for my artwork and exactly what I want to focus on for the next year. Thank you everyone from The Magic Jungle! I have a mountain of gratitude for your kindness and guidance! This week was priceless.

Meet your instructors and staff

What an unexpected, eye opening, truly magical experience! Ana and her staff created a warm, safe, and supportive environment that allowed to really think of myself and my life as an artist.

Ana Victoria Calderon

As most artists do, I began painting and crafting at a very young age. I recall having an activity book as a kid, and one of the pages said “draw yourself as a grown-up”, naturally I envisioned myself will an easel and color palette wearing a beret, Picasso style.

Art is something that has always been in the front of my mind, but as you grow older, society tells you the art industry is too tough, so naturally I went off to study Graphic Design in college. It was the closest thing to being an artist in the real world

I chose a great University for me, UDLA was set in a little town in Mexico called Cholula. The bohemian and intellectual vibe from the 60’s and 70’s lingered on and it was beautiful. I found my people and myself during those years. Then, 2008 came along, graduation, and BAM! The real world. It was time to do something with that degree of mine. I opened up a small design studio in my hometown of Cancun, and found myself to be miserable. I would paint all night and dread the next day when I would have to deal with clients who wanted changes in their logo I had invested my heart and soul in. What happened? Was I just not meant to do this for a living?

I made a huge decision, took a leap of faith. I left everything behind and moved to Mexico City to pursue an art career. Scary, I know. How was I going to actually sell my watercolors? Who was even going to buy them?

It’s been 7 years now and can firmly say that was the best decision of my life. Not only do I make a great living off of my art, but I get to do what I LOVE every day. I currently sell my work through my online shops and work with great clients, including Hallmark, Trader Joe’s, Papyrus and my work is published in high end magazines like Vanity Fair and Glamour. I get to see my watercolours on beautiful products sold around the world and teach more than 20,000 students online.

Painting has given me the lifestyle I have always dreamed of, complete personal and financial freedom. I believe anyone can do this with the right direction and motivation. I am excited to share my complete story with you and hear yours!

I'm a crazy intuitive lady known for leading Good Axe Designs, a different kind of design studio. People come to Good Axe with diverse needs, but all are looking for original thinking, design expertise, and above all, simplicity. Our team transforms complex ideas into meaningful visuals that tell a compelling story.

We are enablers for good. We innovate, collaborate and create with folks to inspire a wave of positive, socially conscious change. Together, we help you understand and express your story, your business, your vision.

Forging brands, websites, photography, book, presentations and videos...

We design good, for the greater good.

As Ana’s sister, we shared the same upbringing in Cancun, MX. Being surrounded by the Caribbean Sea andJungle established in me wanting to continue a life of enchantment and independence. When I was a teen, like many teens I felt like a “weirdo” in my small town and at 19 I decided to move to my romanticized idea of The City Where Weirdo’s Are Free: San Francisco, CA (which was everything I wanted and more). I enrolled in the fashion school FIDM to study fashion design. It was there where I discovered that my greatest passion was Fairy Tales which led me to start my own line inspired in Mermaids with the intention of making the wearer feel like they are on vacation in a fantasy island where they are the main character in a Magical Story.

After school I moved back to Mexico to find production and start the line. I built it slowly and steadily on my own and over the years had enough to move back to America, this time to New York City where I now have my HQ and ship from. Margarita Mermaid has been featured in Nylon Magazine and Sports Illustrated. Our own online store is now my main source of income as well as the line being carried by Forever 21, Dolls Kill and other retailers.

I’m excited about co-hosting this retreat because the struggles and obstacles I went through on my way to success will allow me to share with you everything that I wish I knew before I started.
