The Magic Jungle Retreats are creative gatherings set in the sacred Mayan Jungle. You will take part in a unique program that features guidance, advice, classes, ceremonies and self exploration set in a beautiful natural surrounding and a healthy schedule.
As most artists do, I began painting and crafting at a very young age. I recall having an activity book as a kid, and one of the pages said “draw yourself as a grown-up”, naturally I envisioned myself will an easel and color palette wearing a beret, Picasso style.
Art is something that has always been in the front of my mind, but as you grow older, society tells you the art industry is too tough, so naturally I went off to study Graphic Design in college. It was the closest thing to being an artist in the real world.
I chose a great University for me, UDLA was set in a little town in Mexico called Cholula. The bohemian and intellectual vibe from the 60’s and 70’s lingered on and it was beautiful. I found my people and myself during those years. Then, 2008 came along, graduation, and BAM! The real world. It was time to do something with that degree of mine. I opened up a small design studio in my hometown of Cancun, and found myself to be miserable. I would paint all night and dread the next day when I would have to deal with clients who wanted changes in their logo I had invested my heart and soul in. What happened? Was I just not meant to do this for a living?
I made a huge decision, took a leap of faith. I left everything behind and moved to Mexico City to pursue an art career. Scary, I know. How was I going to actually sell my watercolors? Who was even going to buy them?
It’s been 7 years now and can firmly say that was the best decision of my life. Not only do I make a great living off of my art, but I get to do what I LOVE every day. I currently sell my work through my online shops and work with great clients, including Hallmark, Trader Joe’s, Papyrus and my work is published in high end magazines like Vanity Fair and Glamour. I get to see my watercolours on beautiful products sold around the world and teach more than 20,000 students online.
Painting has given me the lifestyle I have always dreamed of, complete personal and financial freedom. I believe anyone can do this with the right direction and motivation. I am excited to share my complete story with you and hear yours!

As Ana’s sister, we shared the same upbringing in Cancun, MX. Being surrounded by the Caribbean Sea andJungle established in me wanting to continue a life of enchantment and independence. When I was a teen, like many teens I felt like a “weirdo” in my small town and at 19 I decided to move to my romanticized idea of The City Where Weirdo’s Are Free: San Francisco, CA (which was everything I wanted and more). I enrolled in the fashion school FIDM to study fashion design. It was there where I discovered that my greatest passion was Fairy Tales which led me to start my own line inspired in Mermaids with the intention of making the wearer feel like they are on vacation in a fantasy island where they are the main character in a Magical Story.
After school I moved back to Mexico to find production and start the line. I built it slowly and steadily on my own and over the years had enough to move back to America, this time to New York City where I now have my HQ and ship from. Margarita Mermaid has been featured in Nylon Magazine and Sports Illustrated. Our own online store is now my main source of income as well as the line being carried by Forever 21, Dolls Kill and other retailers.
I’m excited about co-hosting this retreat because the struggles and obstacles I went through on my way to success will allow me to share with you everything that I wish I knew before I started.
